NHL Training Camps Open Across the League with #ProBucks – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio — As training camps opened around the National Hockey League this week, #ProBucks are on rosters across the league.

Layton Ahac (2020-21), is in his second full pro season, and Will Riedell, who played for the Buckeyes as a graduate student last year, are in training camp with the Vegas Golden Knights. Ahac has played for AHL Henderson since turning pro and Riedell made his pro debut with AHL Lehigh Valley after Ohio State’s season concluded last year.

The New York Rangers have two Buckeyes in camp – Tanner Fritz (2012-15) and Matt Bartkowski (2009-10). Bartkowski, who was with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the Penguins’ organization last year, has played in 256 combined NHL games with Boston, Vancouver, Calgary and Minnesota. Fritz is in his second season in the Rangers’ organization and has 42 games of NHL experience with the New York Islanders.

Georgii Merkulov (2022), a 20-goal scorer for the Buckeyes as a freshman last season, signed with Boston as a free agent following the collegiate season. He is in camp with the Bruins.

Goalie Tommy Nappier (2018-21), in his second full pro season, is in camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He signed with the team following his senior year and has spent time with AHL Wilkes-Barre Scranton and ECHL Wheeling the last two years.

Tanner Laczynski (2017-20), who dealt with injuries in his first two pro seasons that limited his playing time, is back in camp with Philadelphia. He has skated in six NHL games with the Flyers, including one last year, and played with AHL Lehigh Valley.

Forward Carson Meyer (2019-20), who made his NHL debut with his hometown Columbus Blue Jackets last season, signed a new contract with the team in the offseason and is in camp with the CBJ. He had nearly 30 points for AHL Cleveland last season.

Mason Jobst (2016-19) is in Buffalo at the Sabres’ camp. He started last season with Rochester but was traded to San Jose late in the year. Jobst re-signed with the Americans, AHL affiliate of Buffalo, in the summer.

Dakota Joshua (2016-19) signed with Vancouver in the offseason as a free agent and is in camp with the Canucks. He is starting his fourth professional season and has seen action in 42 NHL games with St. Louis.

David Gust (2014-17) was with the Carolina Hurricanes organization the last two years and part of the AHL Chicago Wolves’ Calder Cup winning squad in 2021-22. He stayed in the area but signed with Rockford and the Chicago Blackhawks’ organization in the offseason and is in their camp.

Josh Healey (2014-17) is in camp with Anaheim after spending the last three seasons in the Nashville Predators’ organization, with the AHL Milwaukee Admirals and Chicago Wolves.

Ryan Dzingel (2012-14), who has played in 404 NHL games with Ottawa, Columbus, Carolina, Arizona and San Jose, signed with the Hurricanes in the offseason and is in their camp. He was with Arizona last year until a trade to San Jose.

Max McCormick (2012-14) is in his second camp with the Seattle Kraken. He has played in 93 NHL games, including 10 with Seattle in 2021-22.

Zac Dalpe (2009-10) is in his second year of a contract with Florida and is in camp with the Panthers. He has skated in 154 NHL games, including one last season.
