Quinn fined $25K for outburst toward referee, game ejection originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Sharks coach David Quinn has received a hefty fine for getting ejected during the 8-3 loss against the Washington Capitals on March 4 at SAP Center.
The NHL announced on Wednesday that Quinn was fined $25,000 for what the league called “conduct demeaning the officials.”
The situation looked optimistic for the Sharks after the first period of play as San Jose built a 2-0 lead. Then in the final 40 minutes of action, the Sharks were outscored 8-1 in the final 40 minutes.
Quinn, in particular, was ejected with his team down 4-2 with 14:15 minutes remaining in the third period. Kevin Labanc took a penalty that the Sharks’ coach disagreed with and let the officials know of his displeasure.
After a few choice words were said, Quinn was promptly ejected, his first as the coach of the Sharks.
Postgame, Quinn was apologetic about his ejection, explaining that he felt “embarrassed” for his actions and promised that an outburst like that would likely not happen again.

Despite the Sharks falling in more ways than one against the Capitols, San Jose rebounded in a big way, defeating the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2, in overtime two days later.
Nevertheless, Quinn will likely think twice next time he wants to express his displeasure to the officials.
