Nets’ Cameron Johnson could make around $20 million annually in the upcoming contract

Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson is in the last year of his rookie contract, which means that he is looking to get paid for the way he has played over the past two seasons. According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, sources have told him that Johnson could earn at least $18 million per year and that making $20 million per season isn’t out of the question.

Before the Kevin Durant trade, Cameron Johnson was looking for a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns according to multiple reports that came out at the time. Johnson was reportedly offered a four-year, $72 million contract by the Suns that he turned down because he felt that he deserved more money in this contract.

Johnson has been playing as expected for the Nets, if not better than expected. He is averaging 16.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 43.4% from the field and 34.1% from three-point land. Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn recently said that he was impressed with Cameron Johnson and his ability to make plays off the dribble. Here’s what Lewis said about what sources told him about what Johnson’s next contract could look like:

“But his (Johnson) tight relationship with Bridges, positional value and status as part of the Durant deal make him hard to let escape. A 6-foot-8 wing who can shoot 40 percent from deep with solid defense will command top dollar. Sources say his floor is $18 million annually, and could easily top $20 million. And with a new leaguewide TV deal kicking in after 2024-25, it’ll make the end of Johnson’s contract a smaller cut of whatever the salary cap becomes.”
