New Delhi: India and Asia’s second biggest rich Mukesh Ambani is preparing to do another blast. His company Reliance Jio is going to launch a cheap laptop. Its name has been named JioBook and its price will be only 15,000 rupees ie $ 184. Reuters has given this information citing sources. The company had earlier brought cheaper smartphone JioPhone and now wants to repeat this success in laptops as well. Currently, HP, Dell and Lenovo dominate the laptop market in the country. But with the landing of Reliance, these companies are likely to get a tough competition.

According to the report, 4G SIM will be installed in Reliance Jio’s laptop. The company has joined hands with the world’s well-known companies Qualcomm and Microsoft for this. Qualcomm will provide chip technology for this while Microsoft will provide support for some apps. Jio is the largest telecom company in the country. The number of its customers is more than 42 crores. However, the company did not immediately comment on the JioBook.

Sources say that Reliance’s laptop will be available in schools and government institutions this month. Its consumer launch can be done in the next three months. Like JioPhone, its 5G version will also come later. Jio phone was launched last year. This is the top selling smartphone under $100 category. According to Counterpoint, it has captured 20 per cent of the market in the last three quarters.

JioBook will be made indigenously. The company has joined hands with contract manufacturer Flex for this. The company hopes that it will be able to replicate the success of JioPhone in laptops as well. The company is aiming to sell lakhs of laptops by March. According to research firm IDC, 1.48 crore PCs were sent for sale in the country last year. Right now it is dominated by HP, Dell and Lenovo.

According to Counterpoint analyst Tarun Pathak, the launch of JioBook is expected to boost the laptop market segment by at least 15 per cent in the country. Jio’s own operating system JioOS will be installed on this laptop and apps can be downloaded from JioStore in it. Jio is targeting such corporate employees who are currently working from home. For such people, Jio’s laptop can become an alternative to tablets. Jio had raised about $22 billion in 2020 from big investors like KKR & Co Inc and Silver Lake. The company created panic in the telecom sector in 2016. The company had launched a cheaper 4G smartphone last year.
