The Bills once again looked like the team to beat in Week 2, and the Eagles might just be a threat in the NFC. It was a busy Monday night with two NFL games wrapping up the season’s second week, although neither was particularly competitive down the stretch.
Tonight, we shift our attention back to baseball’s postseason push, as teams jockey for position in the season’s final few weeks. We’ve got a potential playoff preview in San Diego, a key AL Central clash and much more.
A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.
MUST WATCH:
St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres
This is a potential preview of an NL wild-card series next month, as the Cardinals are the division leader with the worst record and seem likely to have to take on a wild-card foe in the playoffs’ opening round. St. Louis is a blistering 36-14 in its last 50 games, and sends its record-setting battery of Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina out tonight against the Padres’ dynamic offense for the start of a three-game series between these teams.

LINEUP:
• Houston Astros at Tampa Bay Rays | The Astros are so dangerous because they can win in multiple ways. They’ve got big bats like those of Yordan Álvarez and Alex Bregman in the lineup, but Houston’s pitching staff has allowed three runs or fewer in seven of its last eight games. Tonight’s starter, Cristian Javier, has a sub-3.00 ERA, so that trend could easily continue tonight. 6:40 pm ET, TBS/AT&T Sportsnet Houston/Bally Sports Sun, watch on fuboTV
• Men’s college soccer: Penn State at No. 9 Maryland | The top-10 Terps have won three straight, including their Big Ten opener last time out against Michigan. Can that continue tonight on their home field against a solid Penn State team? 7 pm ET, Big Ten Network, watch on fuboTV
• New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers | The Mets clinched a playoff berth last night, the club’s latest step in changing “decades of dysfunction” in its quest for an elusive World Series title. One of the important pieces for the Mets to make that kind of deep playoff run is Carlos Carrasco, whose 15-6 mark has been a big reason the Mets control the NL East. He’ll start tonight in Milwaukee against a desperate Brewers team. 7:40 pm ET, SNY/Bally Sports Wisconsin, watch on fuboTV
HIDDEN GEM:
Cleveland Guardians at Chicago White Sox
It’s now or never for the White Sox, who get three cracks at the Guardians this week in Chicago with a chance to cut into their four-game division deficit. The good news for the Sox? They have their three best pitchers lined up for this series, headlined by ace Dylan Cease, who takes the ball tonight. A sweep would change the landscape of this division…but anything short of it would leave the Guardians in solid shape to head to the postseason.
