Who is starting for the Mets?

Max Scherzer gets the start as he looks to put together a fourth straight solid outing and put his early season struggles behind him. Scherzer has allowed just two runs on 11 hits over his last 18 innings with 19 strikeouts.

On the year, the veteran right-hander has allowed 16 runs on 33 hits over 40.2 innings, good for a 3.54 ERA (4.64 FIP). Scherzer has walked 13 and struck out 39 and allowed a 1.131 WHIP through eight starts of his 2023 campaign.

Scherzer is 16-5 with a 2.61 ERA against Philadelphia in his career with 43 walks and 230 strikeouts in 29 career starts.

The Mets are 15-0 when the starter completes at least six innings (and 5-0 when the starter goes seven), a trend the 38-year-old would like to see continue.

Who is starting for the Phillies?

Taijuan Walkerthe former Met, takes the ball for the visitors in his 12th start of the year.

The right-hander has gotten off to a rough start to his Phillies career. He’s allowed 33 runs on 55 hits over 53.1 innings pitched for a 5.57 ERA (5.16 FIP) and 1.46 WHIP. He’s walked 23 and struck out 43 while being tagged for nine home runs.

However, aside from a rough start (allowing four runs in just 0.2 of an inning against the Giants on May 17), Walker has been better recently. He’s allowed just three runs on 12 hits in his last 12 innings.

In 59 appearances over two seasons in Queens, Walker pitched to a 3.98 ERA in 316.1 innings.
