The three main reporters for the Pittsburgh Steelers official site put out mock drafts this week and we are going to take a look at who each of them chose for the Steelers in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft.
First up with Dale Lolley who went with Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee:
Bresee has dealt with some issues the past two years with injuries and the death of his sister last September, but he’s big and athletic. He can also play defensive end or even nose tackle while also providing a pass rush.
Next, we have Mike Prisuta who went with the legacy pick of Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr.:
The Steelers can let their guy come to them, whether that proves to be an offensive tackle, a safety or a cornerback. In this scenario it’s the latter and it’s a legacy.
Finally, Matt Williamson goes the route of Lolley with Bresee:
Bresee is a high character young man that has some Cameron Heyward similarities to his game. Bresee, Heyward, and Larry Ogunjobi could give the Steelers a truly dominant defensive interior.
Perhaps the most interesting part of these mock drafts is how in two of them, one of the top quarterbacks is still on the board. In that scenario, I would hope Pittsburgh would strongly entertain the notion of a trade back to stockpile picks.
Overall plugging in guys like Bresee or Porter, especially with a run on offensive tackles, makes sense. Let us know in the comments what you think of the picks and who you would prefer.
