Laptops now available for library checkout

Published 12:00 pm Thursday, March 31, 2022

Laptop computers are now available for patrons to check out from the Lincoln County Public Library.

The pilot program is funded by the Emergency Connectivity Fund, used to help libraries and schools provide tools and services needed by their communities for remote learning during the time of COVID-19.

“Unfortunately, the Library is not physically open 24-7, so there may be times patrons require access to computers, and they simply cannot obtain it,” said Lincoln County Librarian Kasie Beth Brown. “We hope the laptop borrowing program will offer the opportunity for members of our community to reach personal goals by providing access to technology they need on their schedule, not just the Library’s. Also, we want to remind everyone that access to the Library’s public Wi-Fi is available from 6am to 9pm Monday-Saturday.”

Laptop borrowing is available to patrons who are registered for full library privileges. A deposit may be required. Patrons should expect to spend 20-30 minutes reading the guidelines, frequently asked questions and borrowing agreement prior to first-time use of the program.

The laptops can be borrowed for up to 15 business days and must be returned in-person to the same location where they were borrowed, during library open hours. They cannot be deposited in drop boxes.

Each laptop includes useful resources — major search engines, Microsoft Office products, Zoom, Skype, etc.
