How to watch Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery’s introductory press conference

Watch Carbery’s introductory press conference on NBCSW originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

There’s a new bench boss in town.

This week, the Washington Capitals hired Spencer Carbery as their new head coach. At 41 years old, Carbery has an impressive coaching resume, having served as head coach of Washington’s AHL affiliate in Hershey and ECHL affiliate in Carolina. He’s also proven to be an effective assistant at the NHL level, having guided the Toronto Maple Leafs to the league’s best and second-best power play units over the past two seasons as an assistant.

Now, Carbery is tasked with bringing Washington back to the postseason after the Capitals missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years. The good news, though, is the wealth of talent the rookie head coach will have at his disposal.

Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, TJ Oshie, John Carlson and Tom Wilson headline the Caps’ veteran core, each of them having been part of the Stanley Cup-winning squad in 2018. Organizational depth is not in short supply either, as Connor McMichael, Hendrix Lapierre, Aliaksei Protas and several other young guns provide a boost of youth and energy within the ranks. Carbery had a hand in developing those budding stars as well, having coached in both Hershey and Carolina.

Local media and fans will get their first chance to hear from Carbery during his introductory press conference on Thursday morning. The press conference will feature remarks from Carbery and Capitals’ general manager Brian MacLellan. The broadcast, which can be watched live on NBC Sports Washington, will feature the network’s Capitals Pregame and Postgame Live show host Alexa Landestoy, and analysts Alan May and Al Koken. Capitals’ play-by-play man Joe Beninati will emcee the event.
