Why is the Brewers game on so early?

The unusual 4:10 pm (Central) start time for the Brewers-Reds game is because the Zac Brown Band is performing a full concert after the game at Great American Ball Park. The concert is available for all ticketed fans of the game.

The Zac Brown Band concert is being done in conjunction with Lou Gehrig Day

The concert takes on special meaning as part of Major League Baseball’s Lou Gehrig Day on Friday.

John Driskell Hopkins, one of the Zac Brown Band’s founding members, was diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Lou Gehrig Day is celebrated by MLB on June 2 to honor Lou Gehrig, the Hall of Fame baseball player who was diagnosed with the disease at 36 years old in 1939. Gehrig was forced to retire shortly after his diagnosis, and he died from the disease less than two years later.

A portion of the proceeds from every ticket Friday night will benefit the Hop On A Cure Foundation, which was started by Hopkins to support ALS research and work towards a cure.
