While many golf fans were eager to see Tiger Woods return to the golf course this weekend, that won’t be the case. Woods announced Monday afternoon that he has withdrawn from this week’s Hero World Challenge due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

“In my preparation and practice for this week’s Hero World Challenge, I’ve developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk,” Woods said in a statement. “After consulting with my doctors and trainers, I have decided to withdraw this week and focus on my hosting duties. My plan is still to compete in The Match and PNC Championship.”
Woods, who has won the event five times, will be replaced in the Hero World Challenge field by Sepp Straka.
Tiger hasn’t competed in a golf tournament since the 2022 British Open, where he missed the cut. He previously played in this year’s Masters and PGA Championship in his return to the game following a car accident in which he suffered injuries to his legs.
Golf fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment that they wouldn’t be able to see Woods in action this week, although they were happy to hear he still plans on competing in The Match and PNC Championship.
I had plantar fasciitis in my foot two years ago. Got a cortisone shot that I maintain is the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. A two-inch needle straight into my heel. Started sweating profusely immediately. Almost cried.
Tiger probably got that shot and didn’t blink. https://t.co/cN8kLIjzcP

major bummer, was jacked to watch Tiger this weekend but obviously the GOAT’s health is most important and hopefully he’ll be back for the Match + PNC unaffected https://t.co/qAIs1LiNcV
