Game notes: Just a few days after the Tigers faced future Hall of Famers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, they’ll take on another legend in Adam Wainwright. Much like Verlander, Wainwright will make his season debut against Detroit. The longtime Cardinal will be starting his 18th MLB season, all in St. Louis. He has already said this will be his final season before he retires.
Wainwright has missed the first few starts of the season with a strain of the groin/adductor muscle that happened in March.
Despite being 41, Wainwright is still a tough matchup. He’s had an ERA under 4.00 for each of the last three seasons: 3.05, 3.15, and 3.71.
NO DEBATE: There’s no confusion over which Hall of Fame cap Justin Verlander will wear
