In the sports media world, there are a handful of reporters who usually stick to their specific sport when it comes to breaking news. Off the top of my head, here is who comes to mind for each league when moves are being made in the sports world:
NFL: Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport
NBA: Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania
MLB: Jeff Passan and Jon Heyman
NHL: Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette (I do not follow any other hockey journalists)
College Football: Pete Thamel
College Basketball: Jon Rothstein and Jeff Goodman
Feel free to agree or disagree with that list (there may be some omissions), but that’s what my first instinct was without taking much time to think about it. But then earlier today, Adam Schefter dropped the following tweet…
I’d imagine that the moment after Schefter presses send and breaks this news, Woj and Shams get very frustrated. This is their lane! But Adam Schefter doesn’t care about that. He wants the scoop. He wants the credit. And this isn’t the first time that he has switched his focus from football to basketball:
He has also worked the sidelines for some ESPN NBA broadcasts before. He’s a pro, don’t get me wrong, but this will never not be weird to me…
Will Woj and Shams try to get revenge and get a football scoop over the next few days? Stay tuned…
