WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A challenging slate of nine tournaments, including the Dr. The Donnis Thompson Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii, is on the docket for the UNCW women’s golf team during the 2022-23 season.
The schedule features a pair of home tournaments in addition to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in nearby Southport, NC, in April.
“I’m very excited about this year’s schedule with the opportunity to compete in elite events both in the fall and spring,” said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. “We have an outstanding schedule to test our players and look forward to being very competitive throughout the year.”
UNCW will open its 2022-23 campaign with two tournaments in September, competing in the Golfweek Fall Challenge (Sept. 11-13) in Pawleys Island, SC, and the Furman Paladin Invitational (Sept. 23-25).
The fall portion of the slate continues in October with two more events. After participating in the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational hosted by North Carolina (Oct. 17-18), the Seahawks stage The Landfall Tradition during the final weekend of the month at The Country Club of Landfall’s Pete Dye Course.
UNCW begins the spring part of its calendar when the Seahawks venture to Orlando, Fla., to play in their fourth consecutive UCF Challenge (Feb. 5-7).
The month of March opens with the Seahawks’ first trip to Hawaii to participate in the Thompson Invitational on the shores of Ewa Beach, Oahu. UNCW then returns home to host the annual River Landing Classic (Mar. 13-14) in Wallace, NC, at River Landing Golf Course.
“We’re looking forward to hosting our 20th Landfall Tradition featuring some of the very best teams in the country in October as well as the River Landing Classic in the spring,” said Ho. “To compete in Hawaii over spring break will be a moment our team will cherish for the rest of their lives. We are grateful to our generous donors for continuing to support our program and allowing us the chance to compete.”
The Seahawks close out the month by heading to Sunset, SC, for the Clemson Tiger Invitational (Mar. 24-26) for the seventh straight year.
UNCW will participate in the CAA Championships at St. James Plantation’s Reserve Course on Apr. 14-16.
