Red Raider Recap: Four golfers make the cut at professional events

LUBBOCK, Texas – It was another busy weekend on the professional circuit for Texas Tech women’s golf as three alumna and an incoming Red Raider played in various professional events.

The weekend began with incoming freshman Lauren Zaretsky who fired an opening round 68 to make the cut at the LPGAs CP Women’s Open hosted by the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club. Ultimately Zaretsky finished at +1 overall, tied for 75th. The Canadian was one of two amateurs to make the cut.

Tech’s second player to produce a strong performance this weekend was Amy Taylor, as the former Red Raider finished tied for 11th at the LET Access Series’ Goteborg Open. With her performance this weekend, Taylor continues to rank inside the top-20 of the LET Access Series’ Order of Merit.

Another pair of alumna had strong weekends on the EPSON Tour, as both Sofia Garcia and Gabby Lemieux made the cut at the Circling Raven Championship.

One of three Red Raiders to compete on the weekend joining Lemieux and Kim Kauffman, Garcia fired a pair of bookend rounds of 68 to finish at -8 overall. Lemieux fired descending rounds of 72, 71 and 70 to finish at -3 overall, while Kaufman missed the cut at +3 overall.

Kauffman entered the weekend ranked inside the top-60/Category A of the Epson Tour Priority List, joining Lemieux (32nd) on the Category A list.

The Red Raiders open up the 2022-23 season this Friday (Sept. 2) for the Carmel Cup hosted at the historic Pebble Beach Golf Club.
