El Paso high school soccer players earn All-State and All-Region honors

Several El Paso high school soccer players were named All-Region and All-State by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.

On the boys side in Class 4A, San Elizario goalkeeper Stephen Chairez and San Elizario defender Matthew Hernandez were named to the first team, defender Marco Legarda was named to the honorable mention team and forward Alan Jurado was named to the All-Region first team.

In Class 6A, Eastlake midfielder Michael Ayala was named honorable mention All-State at midfield. Forwards JJ Aleman and Jordan Widner of Eastlake were named to the first and second team All-Region team, respectively, as forwards and Gustavo Muela of Eastlake was a second-team All-Region selection as a midfielder.

On the girls side, San Elizario was well represented in Class 4A. America Barrera was named second-team All-State as a forward, Angela Chairez was named second-team All-Region as a midfielder and Judith Hernandez was named second-team All-Region as a forward.

“It’s a great honor to be named All-State,” Barrera. “We have accomplished a great deal during my time here. Our coach Miguel Mendez helped encourage us and helped us so much. Throughout my time here, I feel like I did my best to help this program and be the best I could be.”

In Class 5A, Del Valle’s Mia Serrano was named to the second-team All-Region as a forward and Natalia Garcia was named honorable mention All-Region as a midfielder.

In Class 6A, Eastlake’s Alyssa Alba was named second-team All-Region as a defender and Julia Childress was named honorable mention All-Region as a forward.
