WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School has announced its students and athletes of the month for November.
Students of the Month
Students of the Month are selected based on the school’s “Portrait of a Graduate” attributes: Resourceful, Responsible, Resilient, Respectful and Ready.
Vanessa Newbold, of Littleton, daughter of Scott and Elisabeth Newbold, is a senior in the TV & Media Production/Theatre Arts program. She is vice president of the Viking Theater Company and a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She is an honor-roll student and a freshman mentor.
Vanessa was nominated by two staff members. Theater Arts instructor Emily Smith wrote: “Vanessa has proven time and time again over the course of this fall that she is a model student, from helping to develop a new science course based on her career goals, to leading a team of 25 student technicians through a complicated production, to captaining a lighting crew to create a vision based on her own light design, to fixing an audio issue at the Women in Trades conference. She has continually proven that she has mastered all of these areas and is more than ready to depart our school for her next step toward being a professional theater technician.”
Also, Music teacher Laura Lamore nominated her for her work as stage manager for the recent play, “The Lightning Thief,” and for her performance as a member of the chorus.
Thomas Jerman, of Chelmsford, son of Jeff and Heidi Jerman, is a senior in the Design & Visual Communications program. He volunteers for The Wish Project, a local agency that provides families in need with basic furniture, home goods and baby goods while also recycling used goods. He plans to attend college and hopes to run his own business.
Thomas was nominated by Design & Visual Communications instructor Derik Rochon, who said Thomas returned to school this year ready to turn things around. “This year, Tom came in with a new attitude and is working hard. He has taken a huge step forward this year,” Rochon wrote.
Athletes of the Month
Delaney Auger, of Westford, daughter of Gerry and Kristin Auger, is a center-midfielder for the girls soccer team. She scored 19 goals and had 17 assists for a total of 55 points as a freshman for the Vikings, who finished the season 16-2-1. She was named to the CAC All-Star team.
Connor Buchmann, of Dunstable, son of Dave and Donna Buchmann, is a senior running back and linebacker for the football team. He ran for more than 1,300 yards this fall for the Vikings, who finished 9-4 and made it all the way to the Small School Vocational Bowl, where they lost to South Shore.
Connor is an honor-roll student in the Plumbing & Heating program and hopes to attend college after graduation. He also plays lacrosse for the Vikings.
