So it’s time for the Mets to pay attention to the competition in their quest to re-sign the two-time Cy Young Award winner.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports a new team that will be in the mix: The Rangers are going to “pony up” for Jacob deGrom for sure, a rival predicts.

The Rangers know how to spend. Last year, they gave Marcus Semien $175 million and Corey Seager $325 million.

Fansided’s Robert Murray names the Los Angeles Dodgers as another team that will challenge the Mets deGrom: “The Dodgers will have to remake their rotation after the 2022 season, as well Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Anderson and Andrew Heaney are all free agents.”

And what chances do the Mets have at re-signing their ace? SNY’s Andy Martino reported this week “The Mets don’t know if deGrom wants to return. … The Mets will pursue deGrom, but they don’t yet know how aggressively, or what deGrom’s contract demands will be, or how much outside interest in him there will be at Max Scherzer-like money.”
