White Sox Beat The Cubs In MLB Gear Sales

The appeal company Lids just released its list of top-selling MLB gear for the 2022 season, and the Chicago White Sox found themselves on the podium with third place. They outsold the Chicago Cubs nationally, including in Illinois.

Unsurprisingly the New York Yankees took the top spot, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees are an iconic brand, and having Aaron Judge breakout for a historic 62-home run campaign only helped boost their sales. However, it was Derek Jeter, not Judge who had the highest-selling Yankees jersey.

Mookie Betts had the highest-selling jersey in the MLB, which helped propel the Dodgers to the number two spot on the list. Jackie Robinson (No. 5) and Cody Bellinger (No. 7) also cracked the top ten in jersey sales. No White Sox or Cubs players made the top ten in jersey sales.

Here is the complete list of teams in the top ten:

So do the Yankees, Dodgers, and White Sox all have in common? They occupy the largest cities in the United States. They are also well-represented in pop culture. The difference between the White Sox is that they are not a national brand. The Dodgers were the top sellers in seven different states, while the Yankees were the top sellers in a whooping 23 states.

Unlike the Dodgers and Yankees, the White Sox are not even the most popular baseball team in their state. However, they are the coolest. It is why countless athletes and artists such as Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, and Kevin Durant have repped the White Sox logo despite not actually being fans. The color black goes with everything. It looks rugged. Cubby Blue doesn’t. Since changing its logo in 1991, the popularity of White Sox apparel has skyrocketed, especially in the hat department.

In 1991, members of the rap group NWA wore White Sox hats. When Ice Cube was asked why they chose White Sox hats, he responded, “Chicago changed their colors to black and white. It was perfect for us.”
