14 mobile phones recovered from Ludhiana central jail

As many as 14 mobile phones were recovered during a special checking at the Ludhiana Central Jail.

While five mobile phones were recovered from inmates returned from the court complex after hearing their cases, 9 were found abandoned in the jail premises.

The Division number 7 police lodged two separate FIRs and initiated investigation.

Assistant jail superintendent Inderpreet Singh said that in the first case, they recovered five mobile phones from five inmates, including Ajay Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Sunny Deol and Kanwaljit Singh.

He said that the accused went to the new court complex for the hearing of their respective cases. In the new court complex, they managed to procure mobile phones from their links.

A case under sections 52 A (1) of the Prison Act was lodged against the accused at police station Division number 7.

In another case, the jail staff recovered 9 mobile phones, 177 tobacco sachets and 5 packets of Biri from different parts of the jail. The contrabands were found abandoned.

The Division number 7 police lodged an FIR under sections 42, 45 and 52A (1) of the Prison Act against unidentified jail inmates.
