10 big Christmas shows coming to the Mobile area for 2022

December brings some big Christmas shows to Mobile, and it may be time to sit down with a calendar to make sure you don’t miss something that’s sure to be a highlight of the season.

A look at what Mobile’s biggest venues have to offer:

The Prophecy Show (Dec. 2)

Missing your seasonal fix of Trans-Siberian Orchestra? The Prophecy Show is a St. Louis-based production that bills itself as North America’s “most popular and longest running tribute” to TSO. Expect a multimedia experience with plenty of rock bombast. Starts at 7 pm Dec. 2 at the Mobile Saenger Theatre; tickets $55-$85 plus fees, available through Ticketmaster outlets including Ticketmaster.com and the Mobile Saenger and Mobile Civic Center box offices.

Black Violin (Dec. 2)

Black Violin is two classically trained string players who mix classical chops with hip-hop influences. The group’s Give Thanks Tour “employs playful storytelling, whimsical string melodies, and hard-hitting beats to highlight the unifying pillars of the holiday season: Giving back to others and being wholeheartedly thankful.” The group currently shares a Grammy nomination with the Blind Boys of Alabama for the single “The Message.” (The Blind Boys are not part of this tour.) Starts at 8 pm at the Mobile Civic Center Theater; tickets are $22.50 and up, available through Ticketmaster outlets including Ticketmaster.com and the Mobile Saenger and Mobile Civic Center box offices.

Playhouse in the Park: ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Dec. 7)

Following several shows for school audiences at the Mobile Saenger Theatre, Playhouse in the Park will present a public performance of this holiday musical at 7:30 pm Dec. 7. Tickets are $20 and can be ordered by phone at (251) 422-5434.

Mobile Ballet: The Nutcracker’ (Dec. 10-11)

Mobile Ballet presents its 2022 Christmas production, featuring choreography by Artistic Director Katia Garza, at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm Saturday, Dec. 10, and 2:30 pm Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. Tickets start at $20 and can be ordered through mobileballet.org.

Mobile Symphony Orchestra: ‘A Cinematic Christmas’ (Dec. 10-11)

This seasonal show features selections such as “White Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “March of the Toys,” “Somewhere in My Memory,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and more. , with a special focus on Alabama-born composer and lyricist Hugh Martin and an artist spotlight on vocalist Holly Payne. Showtimes even 7:30 pm Dec. 10 and 2:30 pm Dec. 11 at the Mobile Saenger Theater. Tickets are $20-$89, available through mobilesymphony.org.

‘Elf’ (Dec. 15)

OK, it’s not a concert, but it should still be a good time. The Mobile Saenger will screen the modern classic “Elf” at 7 pm Dec. 15. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children younger than 12 and seniors. Available at the Saenger box office only.

Roman Street and The Marlow Boys (Dec. 16)

This annual concert brings together two Mobile-area acts that each have made a name for themselves with audiences far and near. Roman Street is known for multicultural, acoustic-guitar-driven jazz that draws on influences as diverse as classical music, “Gypsy jazz” and flamenco. The Marlow Boys take a similarly eclectic approach to roots rock. The show starts at 7:30 pm Dec. 16 at the Mobile Saenger Theatre; tickets are $29.50 and up, available via Ticketmaster.com and the Saenger and Civic Center box offices.

‘A Very Electric Christmas’ (Dec 17)

Lightwire Theater, featured on “America’s Got Talent,” presents a “magical and captivating tale of family, friendship and hope” that “combines the arts of puppetry, theater and dance with the music of timeless holiday hits.” The show starts at 7:30 pm Dec. 17 at the Mobile Civic Center Theater; tickets are $16 and up, available via Ticketmaster.com and the Saenger and Civic Center box offices.

Charlie Brown Jazz Christmas with Taylor Hicks (Dec. 17)

This annual local treat features the Joe Cool Trio (drummer John MIlham, pianist Chris Spies and bassist Chris Severin) playing the iconic Vince Guaraldi soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” This year’s show also features a set by Taylor Hicks, backed by the trio on a mix of classics and originals. The show takes place at 7 pm Dec. 17 at the Mobile Saenger Theatre; prices are $12 for children under age 10, $30 and up for adults. ‘A Magical Cirque Christmas’ (Dec. 30)

This “Dazzling Christmastime Adventure” hits Mobile a few days after Christmas, but packs “an evening of dazzling performers and breathtaking cirque artists, accompanied by your favorite holiday music performed live,” with hostess Lucy Darling. The show starts at 8 pm Dec. 30 at the Mobile Civic Center Theater; tickets are $31 and up, available through Ticketmaster.com and at the Mobile Civic Center and Saenger box offices.
